The SoSafe 2025 Cybercrime Trends Report revealed that 87% of organizations worldwide experienced AI-driven attacks in the past year, while 91% of experts predict that these threats will intensify over the next three years. Additionally, data from the World Economic Forum indicates that the trade of deepfake tools on the dark web surged by 223% between 2023 and 2024. However, detecting AI-powered cyberattacks remains a challenge, with only 26% of experts confident in their organizations’ defense systems.
AI is being utilized in various types of cyberattacks, particularly in obfuscation techniques that conceal the source of attacks, as well as multi-channel attacks that integrate email, SMS, social media, and other platforms. This makes threats more sophisticated and harder to detect. Phishing attacks have also evolved into “3D phishing”, incorporating voice, video, and text to create highly deceptive schemes. Additionally, the internal use of AI within organizations has inadvertently introduced vulnerabilities, such as data leaks and the generation of false information. As a result, 55% of businesses have yet to implement comprehensive AI risk management measures.
Despite the threats posed by AI, experts from SoSafe emphasize that AI can also serve as a powerful cybersecurity tool when utilized for detecting anomalies, training employees, and automating security measures. However, the success of AI-driven cybersecurity depends on organizations prioritizing employee awareness and effectively integrating human expertise with technology.
