California Cryobank (CCB), one of the largest sperm banks in the United States, has disclosed a data breach that may have exposed customers’ personal information to unauthorized access. Suspicious activity was first detected on April 21, 2024, and an investigation revealed that attackers accessed or stole certain files between April 20–22, 2024. The potentially affected data includes names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account details, and health insurance information. However, it remains uncertain whether donor data was compromised.
CCB began notifying affected individuals on March 14, 2025, and is offering one year of free credit monitoring through CyberScout to help safeguard financial information. A toll-free call center has also been established to assist affected customers. The company has implemented additional cybersecurity measures to reduce the risk of future incidents.
While CCB has not disclosed specific technical details of the breach, the incident raises serious privacy concerns. The company urges affected individuals to closely monitor their financial transactions and use the fraud protection services provided to minimize potential risk.
