120/68 Thursday, March 27, 2025

Astral Foods, South Africa’s largest poultry producer, disclosed that it suffered a cyberattack on March 16, 2025, which temporarily disrupted operations in its Poultry Division, including production and delivery. The incident caused the company to incur financial losses exceeding 20 million South African Rand (approximately $1 million USD). The company responded by implementing its cyber incident response and recovery plan and confirmed that no sensitive data was compromised. As of now, all systems have been restored and are operating normally.

The cyberattack had a direct impact on business operations, prompting Astral Foods to issue a warning to investors that the event will affect the company’s Earnings per Share (EPS) for the current financial reporting period. The company did not specify the type of attack or the group responsible, as no ransomware group has claimed responsibility at this time.

Astral Foods now joins a growing list of major food industry companies targeted by cyberattacks in recent years, including Dole, JBS, Sysco, and Mondelez. The incident highlights the increasing vulnerability of the global food and agriculture sector, raising alarms about the potential impact of cyber threats on the supply chain and national food security.
